MRT Jakarta sign contract for underground construction with Shimizu Adhi Karya Joint Venture

    After several failed tenders, the signing of the contract for the construction of the CP202 Harmoni—Sawah Besar-Mangga Besar was finally carried out on Monday, July 18, 2022, marked by the issuance of a Work Start Order (SPMK) to the Shimizu Adhi Karya Joint Venture (SAJV) as the executing contractor.

    The scope of the CP202 construction work includes the construction of three underground stations, including Harmoni Station with a length of 252 meters and a depth of about 16 meters, Sawah Besar Station with a length of 200 meters and a depth of about 27 meters, and Mangga Besar Station with a length of 220 meters and located at a depth of about 27 meters, as well as a 1.8 kilometer underground tunnel from Harmoni to Mangga Besar.

    A number of technical challenges are part of the implementation of development work, such as narrow corridor conditions, types of soft soil in the development area, being in a heritage area, to the construction of stations combined with the development of transit-oriented areas, as well as integration with other modes of transportation. , interconnection with surrounding buildings, and revitalizing the sidewalks of Jalan Gajah Mada and Jalan Hayam Wuruk.

    The CP202 construction area is located on Jalan Gajah Mada and Jalan Hayam Wuruk which are separated by the Ciliwung Gajah Mada River. In addition, the construction site for the CP202 area is also very close to the surrounding buildings. Taking into account the existence of the Ciliwung Gajah Mada River, the position of the underground station at CP202 is under the road segment, namely Harmoni Station under Jalan Gajah Mada, Sawah Besar Station under Jalan Gajah Mada, and Mangga Besar Station under Jalan Gajah Mada.     Furthermore, with the limited width of Jalan Gajah Mada and Jalan Hayam Wuruk, the width of the stations, especially Sawah Besar Station and Mangga Besar Station, will be narrower by about 14 meters. Therefore, the design of the two stations is deeper, about 27 meters, with four floors below the ground so that the paths to the south and north are at different levels (top-down/stacked platform). There is a corridor for passengers that crosses under the Ciliwung Gajah Mada River, with a special construction method, to accommodate passenger access from all directions.

    The construction team will carry out special handling related to the type of soft soil in the construction area. At the beginning of construction, the handling was mainly on Land Subsidence by improving the existing soil condition (soil improvement) in the three station areas, using the jet grouting method and thickening the station walls (Diaphragm Wall/D Wall). In addition, the construction area is also adjacent to the surrounding buildings that are quite old, so that it is a special concern in preparing the right construction method.
