RFI launches a tender worth 1.1 billion euros for the Firenze railway tunnels and station

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), the state-owned railway infrastructure manager in Italy announces a major tunnelling tender.;

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group) has published the tender notice in the Official Journal of the European Union, for a total amount of over 1.1 billion euros, for the construction of the bypass and the high-speed station of the Firenze node.

The loop of the new High Speed ​​/ High Capacity line which extends for about 7 kilometers underground with two parallel tunnels on average at a depth of about 20 meters, completed with two terminal sections on the surface: to the north between the stations of Firenze Castello and Firenze Rifredi , and to the south near the Firenze Campo di Marte station. The excavation of the tunnels will take place with mechanized techniques through the use of a tunnel boring machine (TBM).

The new Firenze Belfiore HS / HC station will be built along the underground route, designed by the Foster architecture studio. The station, served by high-speed trains, will be interconnected with the Santa Maria Novella station and with the entire surrounding urban area thanks to different modes of transport: the new people-mover that will operate between the new station and Santa Maria Novella, the 2 of the city tram system already in operation, the new surface railway stop called Circondaria and the connections, appropriately strengthened, with city buses.

Meanwhile, the Infrarail Firenze Company (IFR) has already entrusted the Herrenknecht Company with the execution of the revamping interventions of the cutter at the Campo Marte site. The preparatory activities for the disassembly of the machine were started from 1 August and will continue until March accompanied by those of overhaul, component replacement and reassembly. By the end of March, once all the operations and preliminary tests have been completed, the machine will be able to be switched on. At the same time, a series of preparatory activities for the continuation of the works will continue with the IFR Company on the construction site of the High Speed ​​Station so that they will be completed on schedule.
