The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is one of 2 TBM operated by Gulermak - SAM India Bitwell JV writes Bhaskar.

21.61 km long Surat Metro Line 1 has 7.2 km long underground part from Chowk Bazar to Surat station and Surat station to Kapodra.  First target is 3.46 km underground route from the first Kapodra ramp to Surat station. It follow road route.

Two TBMs are Terratec S 94 and Terratec S 78. Terratec S 94 is brand new and just passed factory acceptance test in China before coming to India.  Terratec S-78 machine had previously successfully bored for Pune Metro Phase-1.

Together these two Terratec TBMs will bore 6 tunnels between Kapodra to Surat station in a route of 3.46 km.
