    Job Introduction

    The Area Tunnel Engineering Team sits independently from the Area Tunnel Delivery Team and provides technical support and management to the tunnelling operation, both for the Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) tunnel drives across the project.

    The Area Tunnel Engineering Team is led by the Tunnel Engineering Manager who has specific responsibility for a specific tunnel drive, or series of tunnel drives. The Tunnel Engineer sits within the Tunnel Engineering Team.

     

    Role Responsibility

    The role of the Tunnel Engineer is to provide support to the tunnel engineering function for a specific tunnel drive.

    The Tunnel Engineer will report to the Senior Tunnel Engineer within the engineering team.

    Specific Responsibilities

    The specific responsibilities for the Tunnel Engineer comprise:

    • For TBM tunnels, assist with the production of the Daily Tunnel Advance Plans (DTAP) sheets, report
    • on compliance within the Shift Review Group (SRG)
    • For SCL tunnels, assist with the production of the Required Excavation Support Sheet (RESS)
    • Managing the evaluation of settlement data in relation to the compliance with Daily Tunnel Advance Plans (DTAP sheets), or RESS sheets
    • Managing the QA function, FCD, NCR, RFI, for their specific tunnel drive liaising with the Construction Assurance Engineering Manager from the Area Teams.
    • Providing the information to the Tunnelling Engineering Manager for the production of the ‘drive’ report and collating the inputs to the Daily Shift Review Groups (SRG)
    • Engineering review of RAMS / ITPs as directed by the Tunnelling Engineering Manager
    • Management / inspection of Temporary Works, as directed by the Tunnel Engineering Manager

    Being a member of the Engineering Management team provides opportunity to contribute into other aspects of this discipline; such as Asset Protection, Instrumentation and Monitoring, etc and provide direction, advice and support to the associated design and construction teams as appropriate.

    Required qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes

    • Construction experience (essential)
    • Tunnelling experience (essential)
    • Engineering or Design Management experience (desirable)
    • Management of ground movement experience (desirable)
    • Chartered (or near Chartered) member of the ICE or equivalent (desirable)
    • Temporary works experience  (desirable)
