Poland: New tunnel on Zakopiance is open

    From now on, drivers can use the new tunnel under the Luboń Mały mountain along the S7 Lubień - Rabka-Zdrój route. Driving takes only two minutes with a speed limit of 100 km/h.

    The tunnel has two tubes, one for each direction. Length of each tube is 2058 m with height 4,7 m and usable width 14,9 m. Each has two traffic lanes of 3.5 m each and a 3 m emergency lane, which makes it possible to third lane in the future. The slope of the tunnel is 0.5 percent. in the direction from Krakow to Nowy Targ.

    Escape routes along the walls of the tunnel are 1,2 m wide, and the emergency passage is 3,5 m wide. There are 11 evacuation niches spaced every 172,5 m, including one located in the middle that is passable for rescue services. On the outside of the tunnel chambers, alarm and hydrant niches are located approx. every 86 m. There is also an emergency stop bay in the middle of the building.
