Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP) has been contracted by Rail Project Victoria (RPV), on behalf of the Victorian Government, to design, build and maintain the stations and tunnels for the Metro Tunnel Project. CYP brings together three of Australia's leading construction partners, Lendlease, John Holland, and Bouygues Construction, that possess the world's best experience in tunnelling, engineering and construction.
The Metro Tunnel Project will untangle the City Loop by taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city. It will create a new end-to-end train line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations at Arden (to be renamed North Melbourne), Parkville, Anzac, and two new CBD stations - State Library and Town Hall - which will directly connect to the City Loop.
What does it mean to be a TBM Operator?
Being a TBM operator requires an appreciation of mechanics, a knowledge of civil engineering and an understanding of geology. Inside this mobile machine, measuring in excess of 8m in diameter, sits the Operator who uses screens as an aid to constantly monitor the trajectory and driving progress of the tunnel. The Operator has a vital role on the construction site.
This role requires an individual who has meticulous attention to detail and who can display proven knowledge in the following:
Tertiary education diploma in construction or a minimum 5 years of experience in construction (Preferable with a leadership role but not mandatory)
Knowledge in geology incorporating the understanding of the mechanics of fluids
An ability to show an understanding and interpretation of force, pressure, torque
Proven understanding of construction diagrams and drawings
Basic understanding of electrical, PLC, mechanics
Document reporting experience
Excellent confident communication skills
