My Republica writes construction of Nagdhunga tunnel will not finish on 23 April 2023 as planned. So far 1,782 meters of the main tunnel out of 2,688 meter excavated. Estimate say it breakthrough only will come in June 2023 and true completion of tunnelling is months later than that.

Japan’s Hajma Ando Corporation could not start construction because Nepal Army did not grant permission for import of explosives and came COVID_19 pandemy. This caused delay.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) lends $141.41 million to Nepalese government. Project cost is estimated around  $188.19 million.

The tunnel is 2.7 km long 12 meter wide 8 meter high.
