The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) finally announces funding for the A7 tunnels. Mitma release:

Mitma formalizes for 14 million euros the modernization works of the tunnels of the A-7 of Ramoncillos, Guapa, Acebuchal and Madroño, in the province of Granada

The objective of the actions is to reinforce the road, circulation and safety conditions of the tunnels, located on the A-7 motorway. The intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which will allocate up to 357 million euros (without VAT) from NextGenerationEU funds to update the tunnels of the State Highway Network and promote the protection of fauna and vulnerable users.

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has formalized for an amount of 14.2 million euros (VAT included), the works contract for the modernization of the Ramoncillos, Guapa, Acebuchal and Madroño tunnels, all of them located on the A-7 motorway as it passes through the province of Granada.

Although the tunnels currently have favorable operating conditions, it is necessary to carry out this action to adapt their facilities, in line with the provisions of the Royal Decree on minimum safety requirements for tunnels on the trans-European highway network.

The intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which includes investing up to 357 million euros (excluding VAT) from NextGenerationEU funds to modernize more than 80 tunnels and enhance the protection of wildlife and vulnerable users in the State Highway Network through actions distributed throughout the national geography.

Among other actions, improvements are promoted in emergency exits, signage, beaconing, lighting, ventilation, electrical installation, fire protection, drainage of toxic liquids or traffic management, etc.

In addition, the implementation of the necessary servers and workstations is included to allow real-time control of all the tunnel facilities, both the existing ones that will be maintained and the new ones, through a control system. centralized (SCADA). With this, it seeks to optimize the operation of the facilities, detect the elements that work defectively and implement action plans in case of incidents.

Some concrete examples of this project are:

In the Acebuchal tunnel, median areas will be set up for passage before each of the entrances, gauging stations will be installed before the entrance of both tubes, and a connecting gallery will be built between the two tunnel tubes as a evacuation route for pedestrians, among other actions.

In the Madroño tunnel, there are also central crossings and an emergency exit, a new network of hydrants, a mechanical ventilation system, a smoke extraction computer system, updated signage and emergency posts. Improvements are also included in variable signaling in order to facilitate the operation and ordinary and emergency management of the tunnel, which must be equipped with indoor closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and an automatic incident detection system (DAI). Likewise, treatments against leaks and waterproofing have been projected, among other actions.
