    Slovenia 2TDK Divaca Koper tunnel

In southwest Slovenia, Divača -Koper railway line is being doubled. For this, there are 7 tunnels constructed. Total length of second line is 27,1 kilometers. But total length of tunnels is much longer: With emergency tunnels etc it is of course longer. Total length of tunnels, service and exit pipes is 37,4 kilometer. The longest of the 7 tunnels is 6,714 kilometers.

This new track will increase the railway line transport capacity to 36.9 million tonnes per year and 212 trains per day (existing and new track).

It costs 811 million euros. With 2021 prices and without VAT. 25% comes from European Union funds. This is an important transport line for European Union too. Part of Trans European Transport Network (TEN-T).

Slovenian company assigned 2TDK as concession company responsible for construction and management of the line. Kolektor CPG and Euroasfalt BIH work on construction.

This is what concession company 2TDK has informed. My excuses for any translation mistakes.

    Half of the tunnels excavated

The total length of tunnels, service and rescue pipes is 37.4 kilometers, and contractors on the second track have excavated 18.7 km. Thus, half of all tunnels are excavated on the second track.

75 percent of the total route runs in tunnels, the length of the tunnels on the 27.1 km long route is 20.5 kilometers, but consider that service pipes are also built on the three longest tunnels, this number is larger.

Service pipes are built in the same transverse profile as the main tunnel pipes. The modern seven -tunnel track brings many ecological, sustainable, security and economic advantages. Tunnel construction is generally more expensive and more demanding, but it is therefore easier and cheaper to maintain. Only with tunnel construction can it be able to overcome the height difference of 430 m at such a short distance, reaching the train speeds up to 160 km/h.

After a good two kilometers from the Divaška direction, the line runs into the first tunnel Lokev, which is also 6.7 kilometers in length even the longest track of the second track. Then the track drives to the Glinščica viaduct, which with innovatively closed reinforced concrete box structure connects the Lokev and Beka tunnel into a 13-kilometer single object. At the end of the tunnel, a service plateau will be built, and right next to it, the power station (ENP) of the Black Kal for power network power supply will be built. Immediately afterwards, the Gabrovica viaduct followed, which is built under the existing highway viaduct Črni Kal. In the following, the track runs through a series of shorter tunnels: Stepani, Tinjan and Osp. In the penultimate tunnel Mlinarji, the line turns south, with Vinjan Vinjan crosses the valley of the Vinjansko creek and closely approaches the border with Italy, from where the view of Trieste also opens. The track then enters the last tunnel of the diocese.

The construction of tunnels is co -financed by European grants from the European Cohesion Fund.
