Romanian language internet journal Newsb .ro reporting construction of four railway tunnels over 24 km through the Carpathians is going to start. These new railway tunnels will shorten the travel on Brasov-Sighișoara railway to 1,5 hours only.

Contractor of tunnels Greek company Elena Aktor as part of RailWorks consortium which consists of Alstom, Arcada, Aktor, Euroconstruct Trading 98. Consortium got the contract for 2.9 billion lei in 2020.

Per reporting, Aktor will use 5 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) to drill the Carpathians. First TBM will come in June.
