Now Korea is dependent on foreign countries of Germany, USA, Japan and China for Tunnel Boring Machine technology. Companies of Herrenknecht, Robbins, Mitsubishi, CRCHI, CREG dominate Korean market.

Korea works very intensely to change this bad situation.

Korea Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Technology Advancement Agency (KAIA) are planning a “Korean-style mid- and large-section TBM development project.” according to Dnews Korea.

Korea has domestic companies which produce TBM but small size 3-5 meters in diameter. More technology development necessary for bigger diameter and different types of slurry, EPB etc.
