Swedish Railways requires investment to cope with the increased demand Fehmarn Belt Tunnel will create

    Jørn Sørensen

Experts warn that Sweden's rail system is in no state to cope with the expected demand increase that the Fehmarn Tunnel will create when it is completed in about six years. As a matter of fact, they are warning that Sweden's rail system in south of the country will be a bottleneck clogged with increased demand.

Quoted by Tidningen  Näringslivet; Anna Engblom, an expert in infrastructure issues at Greater Copenhagen (a regional initiative to promote economic development) says railways in Southern Sweden need investment now or otherwise the goods will get stuck when the demand for railway transportation increases when the tunnel becomes operational.
