The section 4 of the Sibiu-Pitești highway is only 9,86 kilometre long but it has a 1,3 kilometre long tunnel. First highway tunnel in Romania. It goes the Carphatian Mountain.

The tunnel is built by PORR. NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method) is used.

The Sibiu-Pitești highway has other sections to be built:

Section 1 (Sibiu-Tibața) and Section 2 (Boița-Cornetu) are built by a Turkish consortium of MAPA and CENGIZ. This 31.33 kilometers long road has 7 tunnels, 49 bridges and viaducts. It will be completed in 2028. Lenghts of 7 tunnels change between 250 metres and 1590 metres.

Section 3 (Cornetu-Tigveni) is built by We Build Spa-Tancrad SRL consortium. This section is 37,4 kilometres long and will finish in 2027. The section has a tunnel with two tubes and 95 bridges.
