FCC Construcción has completed the excavation of the Guillermo Gaviria tunnel, which is the longest and deepest tunnel in Latin America. The excavation of the 9,730 meters in length as well as the 900 meters of depth of the tunnel has been completed, allowing the connection of Antioquia with the sea. The completion of the excavation was carried out by means of a detonation that fragmented a wall made of rock 3.5 meters wide, positioning FCC Construcción as a company specializing in the execution of tunnels internationally.

This road infrastructure will also transform transportation and logistics in Antioquia, the Center and Southwest of the country, and will also be able to promote the development of the ports in Urabá (Puerto Antioquia, Puerto Darién, and Puerto Pisisí). In addition to excavation, FCC Construcción has carried out activities such as covering more than 8 kilometers and paving more than 2 kilometers. The Guillermo Gaviria Echeverri Tunnel (GGE), located between Cañasgordas and Giraldo, is part of a project that includes: 18 tunnels, 30 bridges and 17 kilometers of roads. More than 2,000 people have made this milestone of world engineering and construction possible.

This infrastructure, the most important in the region that will connect Medellín and Urabá in less than four and a half hours, will transform the route to the Antioquia sea and change the dynamics of transportation and logistics from the center and southwest of the country.
