In Norway there are more than 1,200 road tunnels. On average, there are fires in two of these every single month, and each year almost four people die in tunnel accidents, writes Teknisk Ukeblad (TU).

Norway had got some extra time to upgrade the tunnels i the country to EU safety standards but it was not enough.
