After much talk since as back as 1992, last July finally the idea of a subsea tunnel tunder the port of Genoa got green light from Consiglio Superiore dei Lavori Pubblici (the Superior Council of Public Works, technical body of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport).

According to plans, after 6 years, Genoa will have twin tunnels under the port, each approximately 3,5 kilometer long and with 14 meter diameter (it requires excavation diameter of 16 meter). Design speed is 70 km/hour for vehicles.
