Bulgaria: 2km long Zheleznitsa Tunnel on Struma Highway opens to traffic
2 Tube 2km long Zheleznitsa Tunnel is the longest road tunnel in Bulgaria. It speeds up connection between the capital Sofia with Salonica in neighboring Greece.
'The contractor of the tunnel is the Consortium "AM STRUMA TUNNEL 2018", which includes: "G.P. GROUP" Jsc., "GLOBAL CONSTRUCTION" Ltd. and "VIA PLAN" Ltd. The value of the contract is 185 370 370,37 BGN without VAT' according to contractor company's internet site.
An Transparency.org text says it cost 128 Million Euros. Is has been financed by European Union.
