The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, together with the president of the Metro board, Guillermo Muñoz, the presidential delegate, Constanza Martínez, and the governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orrego participated in the first meeting of tunnels of the future Line 7 of the underground train on March 5.

At the event, which also included residents and mayors of the communes that will benefit from the route, the authorities thanked the commitment of the Metro workers who participated in this work, which in 2028 is projected to transport nearly 60 million people annually.

“As a government, it fills us with satisfaction to see how Line 7 is taking shape and how that desire for greater territorial equity in the city is getting closer with each meter of progress of this project. 14 months ago we were on the surface of this pit with President Gabriel Boric to let's get to work and today, thanks to the tremendous work carried out by Metro, we are joining the first section of this future new line," highlighted Minister Juan Carlos. Muñoz.

“With an investment of 2,528 million dollars, an extension of 26 kilometers and 19 stations, this line will benefit eight communes, but especially the residents of Renca, Cerro Navia and Vitacura who will join Metro for the first time,” added the head of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.

The first meeting of Line 7 tunnels was carried out between the construction shafts of the future Baquedano L7 station and construction shaft No. 10 located next to the former Literary Café, within Balmaceda Park, in the commune of Providencia.

"At Metro our main motivation is to bring people closer to living a better city. Therefore, in the same place where almost a year and a half ago we began the excavation stage of Line 7, today we are moving forward with the construction milestone of the first meeting of tunnels, where two points of the interstation tunnel are connected for the first time at an underground level, which reinforces the commitment we have with all the residents of the eight communes through which this new route will pass and with the entire city in general" he added the president of Metro, Guillermo Muñoz.

“Democratizing access to the city, to goods and services means allowing people to have access to fast, safe and sustainable means of transportation. Strengthening the Metro network and the bus network is the way to make Santiago a sustainable city in the future,” emphasized the governor of Santiago, Claudio Orrego.

The closest station to the location where the tunnel meeting took place is the Baquedano L7 station, which in 2028 will have five entrances in total. To the four existing entrances through L1 and L5, an entrance will be added at the eastern end of the Juan Gómez Rojas Park in Recoleta, in front of the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile.

Finally, it should be noted that L7 currently has a formal progress of 15%, of which an increase is expected in the coming months with the commissioning of the tunnel boring machine in the section that covers the communes of Renca, Cerro Navia and part of Quinta Normal.
