“The construction of a very important Rikoti, the new tunnel connecting the East and the West, has been completed. Consequently, the traffic will be moved to the tunnel today, ”Minitrri of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze said while browsing the new Rikoti tunnel.

The construction of a new, 1800m tunnel is completed on the Rikoti Ricothe section of the East-West Main Road, along with the Rikoti Historical Tunnel, and the traffic has been opened today. The new, 1800m tunnel is the longest between the tunnels on the Rikoti Road.

“The new tunnel is fully equipped with road safety absolutely all, mechanical or electrical, system. Of course, with households, direct connections, messages systems. The infrastructure needed to manage these systems is also underway. It is also important that two parallel tunnels will be intertwined with three evacuation, including one motorway exit. It can be said that the longest tunnels in Georgia will be equipped with all the necessary road safety systems, ”Irakli Karseladze said.

According to the Minister, from today the motor transport will be operating with a new tunnel, and in the old tunnel, rehabilitation works will begin. In the old tunnel, road cover will be renovated, lamps will be replaced, the necessary road safety systems will be installed.

Irakli Karseladze also spoke about the remaining works of Rikoti's highway, which continues intensively.

“The final stage is the construction of the Shorapani-Argveta section and the works are on the Chumateleti-Khevi section intensively. Some large slope processing is already in the final stage. Of course, the challenge is on the landslide section, where a new way will be switched on. Works will continue and depending on the climatic conditions, the cover will also begin. Consequently, it can be said that this will be completed as a whole, ”the Minister said.

At the moment, the vehicle is already using 36 km of Rikoti's new highway, including 77 bridges and 43 tunnels. At Rikoti Pass, total, 52 km. 4 striped, high -rise road, 51 tunnels and 97 bridges are being built. Of the 51 Rikoti tunnels, 50 tunnels and 89 bridges have already been built. The new way is to take into account all modern road safety standards, including the lighting system.
