Austrian Autobahn Company ASFINAG is full throttle on the extensive renovation of Salzburg A10 Tauern Autobahn:
ASFINAG is now bringing Ofenauer and Hiefler tunnels on the current state of the art on the Salzburg directional lane, throwing the tunnel chain section on the Villach directional lane. The tunnel tubes opposite each other are closed, traffic runs again over 14 kilometers- from Wednesday in the Ovenauer and Hiefler tunnel, from Saturday also in the Brentenberg, Zetzenberg and Helbersberg tunnel in oncoming traffic. The total traffic release is planned at the end of June 2025. By the beginning of October this year, due to the continuing wave of return north, massive traffic jams can be expected, especially on the weekends.
In order to be able to keep the release date before the start of the heavy summer travel traffic in 2025, a later start of the work is not possible. The schedule is highly and ambitious and the capacities of the executing companies are exhausted. Even in the case of tunnel recovery renovations in Austria, such a dense performance volume has been provided in the same time as here. In this phase, it is again worked around the clock in three-shift operation.
Comprehensive security package
The ASFINAG is building new company buildings, extinguishing water supply and geared cross -beats - i.e. now for emergency services, also accessible escape connections between the tubes. The tunnels have a new coating, video detection, sound, radio, emergency calls, ventilation, countless new sensors, cloudy measurement and new traffic control facilities. The acoustic early warning system is also used acutely in all five systems. Intelligent microphones immediately recognize atypical danger noises such as an impact, in the responsible traffic management center St. Michael im Lungau, the camera is switched on on the monitors within seconds.
More construction sites on the A 10 Tauern Autobahn
ASFINAG uses the long -term traffic window to be low in traffic compared to the summer to the long time from mid -September to the end of November to implement further construction measures on the A 10 urgently needed for traffic safety. At Flachau, the anchor wall is repaired and the entire safety technology is renewed in the housing. From Monday, September 16 to the end of November there is only one lane available per direction. At Zederhaus, a renewal of road crossings or stretching joints is required. Work on the directional lane Villach will start on September 9, and on September 16, only one lane is open towards Salzburg. Until the beginning of October, these lane sections will come to the north due to the continued wave of returns to the north due to the continued wave of return. A start of the work in September is essential to cope with before the cold season. This work is not possible in winter.
