For Melbourne's North East Link, contractors  Clough Group recycles old car tyres into safety barriers.

Clough Group says "This Australian-first initiative is supporting local jobs, saving tonnes of waste from landfill, and protecting workers on the major infrastructure project which is currently under way in Melbourne.

Developed in collaboration with Saferoads, for every 1km of the safety barrier produced, 12 tonnes of recycled tyres are used – that’s the equivalent of 2000 tyres! To-date the project has installed more than 220 barriers across the project.".
