Why this group?

Tunneling and in general Underground construction industry is very much a results-oriented industry.

We can say that, environmental sustainabilty never gets the attention it should in Underground construction industry. It is almost "anything goes" while boring tunnels with all that chemicals and construction materials used and left behind in the nature. This is partly due to the fact that, unlike the rest of the construction industry, underground works are performed mostly away from the public eyes and by a tightly-knitted teams of people with no room for whistleblowers or nay-sayers.

When it comes to the safety of the underground workers, it can be asserted that, politics and the underground construction companies are more sensitive about the safety of the people working underground. This is probably because unlike the environment, people tend to have husbands, wives, mothers, fathers and other relatives. Not to forget the fact that they can vote. Consequently, there have been important improvements in the safety of the underground workers in the recent years -at least in the western World- but obviously it is still not enough because we still hear now and then about fatal work accidents.

If you would like to contribute to the struggle for the safety and environmental sustainability in tunneling and in general all underground construction, please come join our group and start posting. You are more than welcome.
