ÖBB press release gives an account of the tunnel floodings as part of the mid-November floods in Austria.

According to ÖBB , "the four-track west route was massively hit by heavy rainfall and storm, especially the "new western track" in the course of Vienna- St. Pölten, which is of great importance for passenger and freight traffic. Among other things, the Tullnerfeld train station and several tunnel sections (e.g. Atzenbrugger tunnel, Lainzer tunnel) are sometimes one meter below water. Some parts of the route and technical facilities have not yet been examined due to the floods. Only when the water is pumped out and the systems are freed from the mud will a damage assessment and as a result a possible realistic prognosis will be possible. Only one track can currently be used on the "old western track". The ÖBB are working intensively to be able to release the second track for train traffic. However, soaked slopes are still in motion and must be observed closely".
