The newly completed Noord-Zuidlijn (North-South line) of Amsterdam metro will be extended to Hoofdorp from the existing station of Amsterdam Zuid (Amsterdam South) according to plans.

The seven parties ranging from Municipality of Amsterdam, NS (Dutch Railways) to KLM airlines and Schiphol airport agree that the extension is necessary to increase the mobility in the region. The bad news is that, the currently it is planned that the extension will be mainly running overground alongside the A4 motorway, although the idea is still in its early phases. The planned cost of the extension proposed to be implemented in the coming 10 years is 3 billion euros. The Noord-Zuidlijn which runs underground Amsterdam had been estimated to cost 1 billion euros and ended up costing three times as much, 3 billion euros.
