Bane NOR is to build a seven kilometer long double track Drammen-Kobbervikdalen rail tunnel under Strømsåsen in Drammen. The tunnel consists of three parts; a 6 km rock tunnel, a 290 meter long mass tunnel and a 540 meter long culvert. In October, Veidekke signed the contract for the rock tunnel, and now the contract for culvert and bulk tunnel is signed with the same company. This contract has a value of MNOK 1,827.

"The bulk mass tunnel is perhaps the most technically demanding part of the contract. It must go under the residential area of Danvik. To make it possible to tunnel through this area, the ground must be reinforced. This is done by injecting a cement mixture into the ground under high pressure so that the tunnel can be operated in solid masses.

In order to establish a culvert (concrete tunnel), it will be necessary to dig a long open building pit. It will be 21 meters deep. This will be a highly visible system, which will cause both noise and system traffic.

    - This can be demanding for neighbors, and then we must do what we can to reduce the disadvantages. In the time ahead, we will inform the city's residents of what is to happen, so that they are well prepared, assures Stine Undrum of Bane NOR.

    - We have put a lot of effort into finding a solution that is both effective and good, says Øivind Larsen of
    Veidekke.
