  16/05/2020 09:00:00 16/05/2020 18:00:00 Short Course on “Practical Engineering Applications of Geosynthetics and new Uses In Tunnel and Underground Space A series of introductory level courses will be given on: fundamentals of geosynthetics; design and construction of geosynthetics reinforced soil walls and slopes; geosynthetics for hydraulic and road applications; geosynthetics for tunnels. The main goal of this short course is that attendees can have enough exposure to the appropriate use of geosynthetics in their research or engineering practices. BIODATA Prof. Dr Chungsik Yoo is a Chair Professor of School of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University in Korea. He is currently President of International Geosynthetics Society, Immediate Past President of the Korean Geosynthetics Society, and Vice-President of the Korean Tunnelling and Underground Society. Prof. Yoo is also an active member of International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association working as Animateur of Working Group 2 Research. Prof. Yoo received his MEng and Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University (USA) in 1987 and 1993, respectively. He briefly worked as a Geotechnical Engineer at Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers in USA and subsequently became a faculty member at Sungkyunkwan University in 1994. Prof. Yoo has authored over 100 technical papers on tunnelling and geosynthetic reinforced soil structures based on laboratory testing, numerical modeling, and field testing. In recognition of his contribution to both research and practice, Prof. Yoo received a number of awards including the IGS Award in 2010, bestowed by the IGS on outstanding engineers in geosynthetics fields. Prof. Yoo has been a core member of Korean as well as international geosynthetics and tunnelling communities for nearly 15 years by providing services in research, education, and practice. He successfully organized two international level conferences as a secretary general; the 3rd Asian Regional Conference on Geosynthetics (GeoAsia 2004) in 2004 and the 2006 World Tunnel Congress which were held in Seoul, Korea. He hosted the 11th International Geosynthetics Conference (11ICG) in Korea in 2018.
