Prof. Dr. Uğur Doğan says they have discovered a few years ago that Palu railroad tunnel in Elazığ is on top of the Doğu Anadolu (Eas Anatolian) fault line. Because of this they placed fault monitor equipment in tunnel.

Also in Elazığ area in Doğu Anadolu region a few weeks ago a 6,8 richter eartquake killed around 40 people.

Palu railroad tunnel is in operation. Because of earthquake there is a light damage.
