Hoban TBM announced on the 17 March 2020 that it has won the construction of the Gripper Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the Dobongsan-Okjeong Metropolitan Railway Section 2.

Size of contract is KRW 34.3 billion (US$ 28m).

Hoban TBM is Korean industry group Hoban Group's construction affiliate. Previous contract (also I reported) on January 20, 2020 Hoban Group informed already that they won an order to supply the Gripper Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the GTX A line (GTX-A line 5) of the metropolitan area. Dobongsan-Okjeong Metropolitan is another victory for Hoban TBM.

Also I reported in January: Hoban Group signed on 29 January 2020 an agreement with Germany's Herrenknecht. Hoban and Herrenknecht together will develop a domectic Tunnel Boring Machine suitable for Korean construction conditions and ground conditions.

New project Section 2 of Dobongsan-Okjeong Metropolitan Railway: It is section 2 of the subway extension project (3 sections in total) from Dobongsan Station in Seoul to Jangam Station in Uijeongbu and Okjeong District in Yangju.

Hoban Gripper TBM will work 3.2㎞. The construction period is 54 months.
