Environmental concerns over Queensland's tunnels for post-COVID19 infrastructure drive

Queensland's plans for stimulating the post-COVID19 economy via multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects may experience resistance from environmentalists. Brisbane Times writes especially the planned 3 new billion dollar rail tunnels get the most criticism. They are a 1.1km tunnel in Lockyer Valley, a 1.1km tunnel through the Teviot Range and a 6.4km long tunnel between Gowrie and Helidon.

Environmentalists are mainly concerned about the impact of the tunnels and in general railways on the floods in the area. Other concerns are for the new railway's impact on wildlife, especially at places where the route goes along the critical koala habitats.
