In an Op-Ed published on Westsite Seattle, the retired Civil Engineer Bob Ortblad accuses the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) for deceiving the public by making the tunnel option look less attractive than it is.
Bob Ortblad who had been campaigning for replacing the West Seattle Bridge with a tunnel, instead of another bridge.
SDOT had recently come up with 6 options for tackling the aging West Seattle Bridge problem. Three of the options involve repairing the existing bridge, two of the options are for building new bridges and one is for building a tunnel. For the tunnel option, a deep bored tunnel is proposed which does not come up favorably in the cost-benefit analysis. Bob Ortblad had been campaigning for a shallow immersed tunnel. In the Op-Ed he says the deep-bored tunnel has been chosen to sink the tunnel option.
