Norway's Minister of Transport and Communications Knut Arild Hareide (KrF) is quoted as saying Rogfast Project will be clarified in this autumn in Norwegian Parliament Stertinget, writes TU.

As a matter of fact, Rogfast project had already been approved at Norwegian Parliament in 2017. Trouble is, the projected costs have increased from NOK 16.8 billion to NOK 22 billion. It is no small increase. Hence the re-evaluation.

    Rogfast

Rogfast is a sub-sea road tunnel between two of Norway's largest urban areas, Stavanger and Bergen.  It entails building a two tube tunnel with a record length of 26.7 kilometers. Each tube will have a diameter of  10,5 meters accommodating a two lane road. Other than the length, the depth of this tunnel is a World record: At its deepest point it will be 393 meters under the sea. When completed sometime in 2030s, Rogfast will be part of the European E39 highway linking the cities of Kristiansand – Stavanger – Haugesund – Bergen.

When completed, Rogfast will be one of the most profitable road projects according to Statens vegvesen. It will contribute to more efficient utilization of the large freight ports near the cities of Stavanger, Haugesund and Bergen. No more waiting for ferries at the mercy of weather conditions.

Rogfast is planned to be financed 79% by tolls and the rest with the government grants. Tolls will not be cheap. For passenger cars NOK 350 and for bigger vehicles NOK 1,050. A competition with cheaper ferries is expected, especially with a private ferry operator.
