After years of problems, delays and project suspensions, finally the work starts for Florentine high speed railway tunnel. This is according to La Repubblica.

First work will be start of the excavation of the 25 meter deep Belfiore-Macelli station in January 2021. And in August 2021,  the excavation of the twin-tube tunnel will start. The EPB TBM S957 is already at the site since 2016 when work was suspended. Some study a year ago stated that tunnelling makes sense. And workers maintaining the TBM to make it ready to bore again.

For high speed train connection (TAV) 9 kilometers of two-track railway needs to be built. 7 Kilometers of this is tunnel. This is important part of Rome - Firenze - Milan TAV connection.

The tunnel will be built as two-tube single-track between Campo di Marte and Rifredi station, via Foster station. The TBM will start in August 2021 boring from Campo di Marte and will reverse for the second tube once it reaches Rfredi station.

They say as we all hope the line will be taken to operation in 2027.
