Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s TBM "Mawla" already completed boring the first 100 meters of the tunnel. The plan is to finish two tunnels of 4.1km by the end of 2022.

The tunnel boring machine used in the project is the largest TBM ever used in India. The state of the art CRCHI TBM has been a source of controversy after the China's aggression on  India's border. BMC has opted not to use the Chinese experts to get the TBM assembled because of the border aggression.
