At Teknofest 2021, a "Intelligent Tunnel Lighting" project by middle school and high schools students in finals.

Teknofest is an annual festival for the last few years. Its objective to encourage youth interested in technology and science. There are exhibitions. There are competitions for different classes (university students, high school and middle school students).

The intelligent Tunnel Lighting project objective is to decrease carbon footprint of tunnels. So it designs tunnel lighting only when necessary. Only when there are cars inside or near. It uses a counter system. Very similar to counter systems used in Operating Systems to regulate access to critical regions. When a car is detected in distance. Counter increase by one. When car leaves tunnel decrease by one. When counter greater than 0 tunnel is light. When counter drop to 0 then tunnel is not right. Demonstration kit use software run on an Arduino microcomputer.
