    Fehmarnbelt tunnel

Following a motion by the action alliance against a fixed Fehmarnbelt link, the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig has reportedly halted dredging work for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel between Germany and Denmark on the German side.

The environmentalists say the dredging will damage the protected reefs. According to the newspaper FAZ, Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Transport had permitted the destruction of the protected reefs on the tunnel route, in return for the Femern AS to create new reefs elsewhere in the Baltic Sea off Fehmarn. The environmentalists had filed a lawsuit against this decision.

Although the Economics Minister of Schleswig-Holstein state in Germany will not think that the court decision will bring any radical changes, although it certainly will cost project time.
