Erjos Tunnel is a double-tube tunnel with each tube 5,1km long. It is constructed by a joint venture of Fomento Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), El Silbo and Syocsa-Inarsa at a cost of 240.370.796. Excavation advances 3-4 meters per day for each tube. Construction began in November 2019 and so fat total 1100 meters excavated, reports Diario de Avisos.

It will be the longest tunnel in the Canarias and one of the longest in Spain. The tunnel goes through the Teno massif and connect the south and the north of the island. Current travel time of 25-35 minutes between Santiago del Teide to El Tanque will decrease to 10 minutes.
