After failing to rescue a stuck tunnel boring machine (TBM), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to terminate the current contractor.

Publication writes the 2.8m diameter TBM got stuck in 2016 after excavating only 1108 metres of 4400 metre long water tunnel. Already a tender was floated last year to finish the tunnel. 400 metres were planned to be excavated using manpower.

It will take another 3 years to dismantle TBM and finish the tunnelling.
