Faroe Island's tunnel construction projects between its islands inspires for fixed links between the islands in north Britain.
One major difference in Britain is the lack of interest from the government side. To create a momentum for the fixed links between the islands, the islanders have taken the matters into their own hands and started privately raising the funds required for feasibility surveys.
An excellent example of citizen activism where the government fails.
