After its announcement 6 years back in 2013, finally the Singapore authorities determine the route of the Cross Island MRT, It will go directly under the Central Catchment Natural Reserve, rather than around it as it was proposed before.
This is a route which was warned against by the environmentalists who say such a route will damage Singapore's wildlife and nature.
The tunnel under the natural reserve will be in 70 meters below the ground.

•Use virtual reality computation techniques to conduct simulation studies of the experience of commuters travelling deeper into a tunnel, and find out the physiological effects for the commuter - such as air pressure, smells, temperature and sense of being in an enclosed space for a period of time.
•Plan and develop measures to prevent the occurrence of fire within the tunnels and to disperse smoke away from the tunnel.
