India: How are the Kolkata East-West Line Tunnel Engineers fighting the TBM in water cavern problem?
Over 450 cubic metres of concrete mixture was injected through a surface bore in Bowbazar through Monday but it was still not enough to fill the vacuum that has been created underneath Durga Pithuri Lane and Shyakra Para Lane that had led to the subsidence and cracks in 18 buildings in the area.

What watern cavern problem? Troubleshooter that KMRC called for help does not think so.
I think water cavern is something KMRC made up to hide the unprofessional tunnel work putting blame on nonexisting cavern.
According to information I have their tbm tail brushes are not in good condition

Before Urvi started digging on Tuesday, it was fitted with new tail seal brushes, additional grease supply lines, cover plates for tail skin gap, extra grout holes and Bullflex seal"
@Pankaj If the brushes are in bad condition it is bad news.
True, subpar-Joe diminishes the function of brushes to dust/earth stoppers. And qualified-joe uses them - with a lot of greasing- to stop excess water and also some pressure balance.
But let's note overestimate the importance of brushes. I think it is a lot of bullshit being produced with all that "water aquifer" en so on.
Sure the problem is one or more of these (tick as appropriate)
- Inadequate project preparation (inadequate geological surveys, so on)
- Inadequate EPB TBM operation (personnel not masters of operating Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machine)
- Inadequate project management (team too much under political or bonus pressure to advance fast, therefore cutting corners, ignoring warnings)
- Technical shortcomings of the Tunnel Boring Machine
Aquifer is an easy excuse. "It is the nature bro!". Apparently here they moved too fast, they excavated too much earth without realising that it is not the excavated earth but the earth flowing under the houses flowing in!

Reality hits Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) :
East-West Metro corridor project likely to be delayed by up to one year: KMRC official.The 16.6-km-long rapid transit system, connecting the twin cities of Kolkata and Howrah, may now be completed by mid-2022.
"The project was scheduled to be completed by June 2021, but we are apprehending that it may get delayed by approximately six months to one year," the Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation (KMRC) official says.
Finally a `movement` without subsidence.
East-West Metro tunnel boring machine has moved for the first time since the project came to a halt following a subsidence in Bowbazar on August 31 causing hundreds of people loosing their homes because of large cracks.
Engineers say "the movement" (4meter advancement) of the TBM under the supervision of British engineer John Endicott, did not trigger any "significant" settlement.
