Contraversial Silvertown tunnel costs rise to £1.2 Billion, an increase of £200million
On Tuesday 10 March, Transport for London (TfL) disclosed the contract it made with the Riverlinx Consortium in November.
The big surprise is, now the projects costs are not £1Billion, but £1.2Billion. It is a major 20% increase of £200million. The increase has created an outrage in some circles. Even without this nasty surprise, Silvertown tunnel construction is seen as a controversial projects, especially by its possible environmental consequences.

Hackney Councillor Jon Burke: “Approximately 40% of Hackney’s traffic is simply passing through the borough and this is likely to increase if the Silvertown Tunnel is built, hence why it has been Hackney Council’s position to oppose the Tunnel since 2015.”
Activists fighting against the proposed Silvertown Tunnel have urged Greenwich council to turn up the heat in opposing the plans
