Rail Baltic project coordinator: Helsinki - Tallinn tunnel will be great for Rail Baltic

I have read in this group that Estonia did not buy Vesterbacka's tunnel project. All this gives the impression that the tunnel project is over.

However the truth cannot be further away than that. If you read the Estonian minister's words carefully, they are not against the tunnel. They are against the tunnel being built by Vesterbacka's FinEst consortium. Probably because Chinese involvement in funding and the potential control of the tunnel. Otherwise the minister is very clear that the tunnel matter should be taken up on state level between Finland and Estonia.

Likewise the Rail Baltic coordinator thinks the tunnel is a great idea for the much wider Rail Baltic project, though he does not seem to believe in Vesterbacka's vision in terms of timing of building the tunnel.
