Brihanmumbai decided not to use Chinese experts to assemble 12.9m Tunnel Boring Machine
Hindustan Times has the news that The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will try to find experts from India to assemble the TBM instead of bringing in experts from China. If no experts can be found in India, if necessary experts will be flown in from Singapore to assemble the TBM imported from China a month ago.
According to the news, BMC officials assert that the decision result of COVID-19 travel restrictions and is not influenced by the clash between the Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh.
This is very correct decision by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Our expectation is that BMC will scrap the SWT deal with China's Shanghai Tunnelling Engineering Company (STEC).
I strongly think that it is time for India to build its own Tunnel Boring Machines. Even some technologically and economically backward countries produce TBM nowadays. I am planning to write a separate post about this.
SHAME! It now comes out that TBM has not been assembled and the contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) had been waiting for Chinese engineers al this time!
Both the contractor and the government authorities have cheated people! SHAME ON YOU L&T and SHAME ON YOU BMC!

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) manufactured by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Company (CRCHI). It is India's largest tunnel boring machine and is used for the Coastal Road Project.
Larsen and Toubro (L&T) had said a few months ago not to use Chinese experts to assemble and operate the TBM. About this Free Press Journal says: "When asked if Chinese operators will be working on the project, the civic body stated that the ownership of the machine is with L&T and it is up to them to take the call."
