I think this is funny. The construction of a new tube at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is 2 years delayed because of the granite boulders placed there while constructing the manmade islands.
The good news is, these boulders make it impossible to use immersed tunnel solution and instead they will most likely need to use TBM to bore through them.
Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel's construction project is now in a two year delay
A tunnel boring machine should help break through the problems, but now the delay will be about two years with a new completion date of 2024.
The construction of Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel’s first parallel tunnel, near the Virginia Beach side of the bridge has been delayed by 2 years!
The projected completion date is now in 2024.
Construction continues on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel’s first parallel tunnel, near the Virginia Beach side of the bridge, with projected completion in 2024, approximately two years later than originally estimated.

This is hilarious. Again the berm rocks...
“The new challenges they’re facing are some rocks that are from existing berm that covers the existing tunnel and the TBM is not made to bore through these materials.”
