The Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Riina Sikkut has said, the long term plan and the strategic importance of the proposed Tallinn - Helsinki tunnel have not changed, although overshadowed with the energy crises and the on-going war in Ukraine.

Sikkut made this announcement after meeting Peter Vesterbacka, 'Angry Birds' game creator and a pioneer & champion of the tunnel. In the past, Vesterbacka's proposal to finance the 103km long railway tunnel via Chinese investments had irked both the Finnish and Estonian officials who want to maintain the complete control over the fixed link, once built.
