The tunnels are built as part of the $16.8 billion WestConnex project. Although the builder says that most of the tunnelling would occur between 30 and 60 metres underground and assure the residents they would not feel the estimated 100,000 cars moving below them, it turns out that parts of the tunnels will come as close as six metres to some homes close to exit points, according to Transport for NSW.
Residents ask for change in the plans.
Residents fear plans to tunnel 15 metres or shallower beneath for an underground spaghetti junction in Sydney's inner west will leave their properties "uninhabitable and unsellable".
