Once constructed, the new 11 km long Offenburg tunnel will be the longest railway tunnel in Germany. Is will especially be used for the freight trains between the Rheintalbahn in the north of Offenburg and the new double-track line being built in the south of Offenburg.

On June 24th, the “Early Public Participation” (FrÖb) for the planning approval section (PfA) 7.1 Appenweier – Hohberg will be available from DB. The plans will be available online on the project site karlsruhe-basel.de during the FrÖb (until July 29th), so that residents in the area can review them and provide feedback if they feel so.

Offenburg tunnel is part of the Offenburg-Riegel railway extension. The first phase will implement the  Appenweier - Hohberg section.
