Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will crown the 6-lane Airoli-Katai freeway in Thane of Maharastra state with a tunnel. The tunnel will have twin 1,7 kilometer tunnel tubes each having 3 lanes. Two tubes will be separated by 10 meters will also have emergency passages between each other at regular distances.

The freeway will shorten the travel time between Thane and Mumbai.
