Tsinghua University and China Railway Science and Industry Group (CRSIC) have jointly developed a new tunneling machine. The new Tunnel Boring and Blasting Machine (TBBM) can deploy boring and drill & blast techniques depending on the geological properties.

TBBM can advance through more efficiently in hard rock and extremely hard rock geological situations.  Tsinghua University and China Railway Science and Industry Group have completed the tests and TBBM is reported to be as ready to be deployed in a project.
