INDIA : Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. submits the cheapest bid for construction of New Ashok Nagar - Sahibabad tunnel
Urban Transport News report National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) tender for the construction of 5.6 km railway tunnel New Ashok Nagar – Sahibabad line saw five bidders. All of them are well known companies in India and previously well vetted by the officials of NCRTC.
When the bids were opened on June 12th, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. (STEC) of China came as the one with the cheapest bid at Rs 1,126 crore beating 2nd L&T Ltd,3rd GÜLERMAK AS, 4th Tata Projects Ltd. - SK E&C JV and lastly 5th Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.
If no last minute problems arise, Chinese company will get the contract.
Calls to cancel STEC's win, as anti-China sentiments in India on the rise.
Yesterday 3 Indian soldiers were killed by China within the Indian territory (Ladakh). This increases probability of the cancellation although probably not to actual cancellation. This wil most probably effect this and future Chinese companies building infrastructure in India.
It is very unfortunate choice for India.
Awarding China with an important infrastructure project sends very wrong message.

Most expect Chinese company STEC disqualified for Delhi-Meerut tunnel
Union Ministry of Urban Development on Wednesday (17 June) clarified that the tender is in “process” and “yet to be finalised”.
I am certain India will not prize China for their aggression.
"Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) which conducted the bidding said the STEC contract for Delhi-Meerut tunnel cannot be cancelled as it is an Asian Development Bank-funded one and their rules don’t allow for this"
Still it is borrowed money, isn't it?
Most recently STEC was also awarded a contract for two tunnels by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. BMC chose Chinese company STEC over Indian company Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
As we keep prizing China's aggression, we as a country deserve this.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Narendra: Modi government is adopting a weak strategy and kneeling down before China by "handing over" a rail contract to a Chinese firm. The government should give a strong message to the neighbouring country.
Only in Mumbai area, six Chinese companies are working in infrastructure projects:
Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co Ltd (STEC), China Railway Tunnel Group Co Ltd (CRTG) and Continental Engineering Corporation (CEC), and SJEC Corporation are all Chinese companies which were given very critical and expensive tunnel construction works
Chief Economic Advisor Krishnamurthy V Subramanian: "India has to compete with other countries and insulating itself from others will not help."
There are calls to cancel Delhi-Meerut RRTS tunnel tender for which Chinese STEC gave the lowest bid in yet to be concluded tender process.
I hope infrastructure projects will follow

Earlier, Maharashtra government put hold the MoU with three Chinese companies.
RSS officials repeat calls for the central government to cancel the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System tender with the lowest bidder Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited (STEC) of China.
(RSS) affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), urged the central government to stop allowing Chinese companies to file tenders for various projects in the country.
